61% of Americans are concerned about the use of generative AI (GenAI) for misinformation and deepfakes, a new report from YouGov finds.
This worry is especially prevalent among Gen X and Baby Boomer Americans, with 69% expressing concern about GenAI misinformation and deepfakes.
YouGov’s new report, GenAI unbottled: America’s attitudes toward AI in media, analyzes consumer sentiment towards Gen AI’s increased usage in media. The report provides insights into how America’s emerging opinions about AI compare with those of consumers in 14 markets around the world.
Among the report’s findings:
- 77% of Americans think that disclosing generative AI usage is important (vs 11% who don’t)
- Consumers in the US (69%), France (70%), Great Britain (70%), and Spain (78%) are most likely to think there is not enough regulation in place for generative AI
- 80% of US liberals and 70% of US conservatives do not believe there is enough regulation in place for generative AI
- Americans are the least likely consumers to engage with content presented by AI-generated influencers of all markets studied, with UAE consumers being most likely (11% vs 51%)
- Only 22% of Americans trust AI-generated news content as much or more than human-generated content (vs. 37% of all markets studied)
- 48% of Americans have used generative AI for work or personal use in the past 30 days, with the fastest adoption among workers in IT & telecoms, retail, and manufacturing.
