Dive Brief:
- The results of a survey from Hibu revealed that 45% of SMBs have absolutely no website at all.
- Of those SMBs that do have sites, only 6% have sites that are optimized for mobile.
- The survey was of 1,800 SMBs in the U.S. and U.K.
Dive Insight:
With more and more people using mobile devices as their primary way to access the internet, SMBs are missing out on a huge opportunity by not having mobile optimized sites. The study showed SMBs were aware of the opportunity they were missing — on average, U.S. respondents thought they might be losing $60,000 a year — so it doesn't seem to be a misunderstanding of the value of mobile-optimized sites. Likely, the main problem is lack of resources to build a site optimized for mobile, since SMBs typically run on much smaller margins.
