Dive Brief:
- Pinterest announced Wednesday its acquisition of marketing startup Kosei.
- Kosei specializes in making product recommendations through its technology that maps 400 million relationships between 30 million products.
- The social platform is hoping to utilize Kosei's technology to improve its "object graph" that maps connections between people, the things they like, and what they will do in the future.
Dive Insight:
Pinterest— still technically a new platform even in the social media world —is taking its time to develop advertising that will really benefit it in the long run. Kosei's product recommendations seems like a perfect fit for a social site where users bookmark stuff they potentially want to purchase.
“With the addition of the Kosei team, we can supercharge our existing graph to help brands reach people at the right moments, and improve content for Pinners," Michael Lopp, Pinterest head of enginerring, wrote in a blog post.
