Dive Brief:
- Pew Research Center's third quarter survey data shows that 72% of U.S. adults are on social networks with Facebook being the most popular.
- While Facebook is still the most used, 42% of online adults use two or more social networks.
- Most respondents who are using multiple sites are using just two, but 19% reported they are active on three or more sites.
Dive Insight:
There has been chatter recently that Facebook may be losing it's footing, but this report doesn't seem to show that. Rather than abandoning Facebook for other social sites, it seems U.S. adults are just adding to the list of sites they use. For marketers, this means it's more important than ever to diversify social media marketing efforts. The use of multiple sites silmultanously means that campaigns that span across different social networks could be effective as well.
