Dive Brief:
- Ogilvy & Mather is cutting 33 staffers from its Los Angeles office.
- The cuts, effective Feb. 3, will leave just 15 employees in that office.
- According to the internal email from O&M North American Chairman John Seifert, dramatic budget cuts from clients is the cause of the layoffs.
Dive Insight:
It's always unfortunate when an agency has to make layoffs. Although O&G isn't discussing it, the budget cuts must have been quite dramatic considering the agency is losing more than half of its L.A. staff. To prevent staff cuts of this magnitude in the future, it would be wise for the agency to honestly audit its relationships with those clients.
