Dive Brief: 

• According to anonymous sources, Facebook is reportedly working on a stand-alone app that would allow users to sign up under pseudonyms.
• The move could be in response to shifting trends to anonymous posting apps like Whisper, Secret, and Yik Yak—as well as anonymous portions of platforms like those on Reddit. 
• Facebook was recently in hot water with after blocked drag queen accounts and saw many of its users shift to Ello— a move it quickly apologized and modified its name policy for. 

Dive Insight:

Although the move makes sense because of the growing popularity of anonymity and concerns about privacy— it is surprising that Facebook is attempting yet another stand-alone app. It's other attempts with Poke, Slingshot, and Hyperlapse have only experienced mediocre success.
