Dive Brief:
- LinkedIn has predicted 2014 will see its traffic from mobile sources hit 50%.
- In the first quarter of 2014, 43% of traffic is already coming from smartphone and tablet sources and CEO Jeff Weiner told analysts that the social site is making a concentrated effort to mobilize all aspects to keep up with mobile users.
- In addition, the last quarter saw LinkedIn launch a content marketing score to help brands measure reach and 22% of its revenue came from advertising and marketing solutions. About 20% of its $102 million in ad sales came from Sponsored Updates.
Dive Insight:
LinkedIn is not alone in having a large percentage — or even a majority — of traffic coming from mobile sources. Both Facebook and Twitter see over half of their traffic coming from mobile, so it makes sense that LinkedIn would, as well. Those numbers just underscore the importance of having a mobile friendly site or app, which the LinkedIn's Weiner seems to completely understand.
