Dive Brief:
- On Monday The Young Turks—a progressive-leaning YouTube-based news organization that had a successfully run on Current TV—will launch a five-day-a-week web series exclusively for Facebook.
- The web series, entitled "Final Judgment," will feature co-founder Cenk Uygur discussing the biggest news story of the day. The Young Turks will not initially be running ads on its Facebook series, however, with focusing on developing an audience first.
- The Young Turks are following many other major content creators that have decided to make exclusive content for Facebook. The NFL has started running original video clips that include Verizon ads; ABC News posts short, original clips daily; and Access Hollywood has a daily web series called "Early Access on Facebook."
Dive Insight:
Facebook proclaims that it has 3 billion video views daily, making it a treasure trove of opportunities for branded content creators. While Facebook videos autoplay in user's feeds, the site gives data for which users watch a video for just a few seconds versus more than 30 seconds. According to Young Turks chief operating officer Steve Oh, "both number have been growing at an astronomical scale," he told The Wall Street Journal. Facebook continues to be the website to beat in terms of size and scale of audience reach.
