Dive Brief:
- Facebook has announced that a new, improved right-hand ad will be hitting the site as early as next week.
- The new sidebar ads will be larger, with more focus on the image, in hopes that they will draw users' eyes better.
- The social giant is also betting that bigger right hand ads will yield higher click-through rates and make them more valuable.
Dive Insight:
Because the ads take up more real estate, advertisers can expect the cost-per-click to go up and the impressions down, as there just isn't as much room to place the ads. Hopefully — both for Facebook and advertisers — the larger ad will increase CTRs and ads will continue to hold, or improve, their value. Advertisers that have previously dismissed the sidebar may reconsider now that the ads are more prominent, particularly if they have images that will look better in the new format.
