Dive Insight:
Atlantic Media, through its digital business news website, Quartz, has created a new site, Atlas, that only features charts, something the company defined as an important piece of its content that it now hopes to use for revenue by offering advertisers and marketers the opportunity to sponsor branded charts.
Quartz's Executive Editor and Vice President of Product Zach Seward took to Quartz’s blog to announce Atlas as well as explain the importance of charts within the company’s content offering, saying, "Charts have always played an integral role in our journalism; Quartz writers published nearly 4,000 charts last year. We also know that our readers love charts and love sharing them. Charts are our cat photos."
In the post Seward explained that Atlas provides a home for Quartz’s charts and also offers tools such as data behind each chart as well as sharable and embeddable images optimized for both desktop and mobile devices. The site opened up its Chartbuilder solution two years ago to allow third-parties to create their own charts, and sponsored charts are clearly labeled and handled through Quartz’s advertising team.
