Dive Brief:
- Industry trade group the Association of Independent Creative Editors posted a statement Tuesday on its website raising concerns about agencies moving post-production duties in-house.
- The AICE is claiming in-house production teams lack transparency, fairness, and ethics—not to mention an unfair advantage over post-production because of the direct connection to clients.
- Among other concerns, AICE raised the point that clients may not understand the services in-house post-production is offering, and in turn work may be sub-par.
Dive Insight:
The direct line to clients and the ability to make suggestions does offer agencies an advantage over post houses. The debate is whether that is technically unethical. If agencies are presenting all the options, perhaps not. The AICE is right to air its concerns, but its uncertain whether it will make any difference in the industry.
