In an often cut-throat industry, job hunting can be a brutal experience in the marketing world. Marketers are competitive by nature and the evidence appears in the fight for a new job.
To give yourself an advantage, consider pursuing marketing positions with a high predicted job growth. Some marketing positions are topping the list of fastest growing professions in the U.S. overall, not just in marketing.
To help you jumpstart your job search, we’ve pulled together a list of three of the hottest jobs in marketing right now.
Market Research Analyst
If you have a knack for numbers and statistics, you might want to consider pursuing a career as a market research analyst. Market research analysts study market conditions and make predictions on consumer behavior on the local, national, and international levels. With the explosion of data coming from digital sources, particular social media and mobile devices, market research analysts are in higher demand than ever before. In fact, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, market research analyst positions are predicted to grow by 41% by 2020. This makes market research analyst one of the fastest growing jobs in the country, not just one of the hottest marketing jobs.
To snag a market research analyst position, you will need a bachelor’s degree and a competent understanding of data and statistics. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, those with master’s degrees may have a slight advantage in getting hired, especially for the top of the pay scale. Lucky hires can expect to make an average of about $60K a year in salary.
Meeting, Convention, and Event Planner
While the digital world is quickly growing, real world consumer engagement still plays an integral role in marketing campaigns. Perhaps consumers place a higher value on this type of marketing now that they are so heavily bombarded digital with marketing messages. Meeting, convention, and event planners are the glue that holds real world consumer engagement together. In an agency setting, event planners typically oversea product launches, sponsorship within other events, and oversea the daily aspects of pulling together meetings, conferences, and other events.
Meeting, convention, and event planners, like market research analysts, are on the top of the fastest growing professions in the U.S. The position is expected to grow by a whopping 44% by 2020, according to predictions from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The positions typical require a bachelor’s degree and some experience in event planning. Those with degrees and/or a background in hospitality management will likely have an advantage. Average annual salary for a meeting, convention, and event planner is around $45K.
Vinographer
While this is a title that may not yet exist, the world of online video is growing rapidly with recent releases of Vine from Twitter and Instagram video – both short video apps that link directly to their perspective social networks. Brands are finding it easier to stand out from the crowd with videos on Vine and Instagram than on saturated markets like YouTube. In a recent article from AdAge, the publication described a trend of agencies hiring out professionals who specialize in Vine and Instagram Video. Creative marketing pros with a good visual eye could build a career on freelancing to these agencies. In the AdAge article, they predicted agencies will eventually create positions that are responsible for creating short digital videos.
In keeping with AdAge’s predictions, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts film and video editors positions will grow 4% by 2020 and photographer positions will grow by 13%. The average salary range is tricky to calculate on such a fresh position, but new hire can expect to make anything from $29K a year to $45K annually.
