Open Mobile Video Coalition names new head
The Open Mobile Video Coalition has tapped Anne Schelle as its executive director to lead a major push into mobile digital television broadcasting in the United States.
Ms. Schelle was most recently partner at Actium Advisors, a specialist in the telecommunications, media and finance sectors. Prior to that, she was president of telecom consultancy Tasman Technologies from 1999 to 2007.
At her new job Ms. Schelle will help with a "mobile standard-setting process" and "define a technological requirement" for mobile digital TV, she said.
The Open Mobile Video Coalition is a voluntary association dedicated to the development of mobile digital video nationwide.
The coalition's 20 members own and operate more than 450 commercial TV stations.
Members include Bela Corp., Cox Television, Dispatch Broadcast Group, Fox Television Stations, Freedom Broadcasting Inc., Gannett Broadcasting, Gray Television Inc., Hearst Argyle Television Inc., Ion Media Networks Inc. and LIN TV Corp.
Also in the coalition are Media General Inc., Meredith Corp., NBC Universal's NBC Station and Telemundo, Post-Newsweek Stations, Raycom Media, Schurz Communications Inc., Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. and Tribune Co.
These members will deploy more services geared to the mobile market.
"I think we're going to see more commercial [mobile TV] services launching in 2009," Ms. Schelle said.
