Kosher brands power new iPhone cooking app
Keeping Kosher is a little bit easier thanks to a new iPhone application from Appsolute?s Cookshelf brand Kosher Cookbook.
The application is supported by Brach's Supermarket, Pereg Spices and Skyview Wine & Spirits. The Kosher Cookbook includes more than 300 recipes from food writer and well-known member of the New York City Jewish Community, Gloria Kobrin.
?[The strategy behind launching] Cookshelf [was] to provide a platform to publish cookbooks for the iPhone and iPod Touch, allowing users to unify all their recipes on one cookbook shelf,? said Alexander Libkind, CEO of Appsolute Media LLC, Valley Stream, NY.
Mr. Libkind said the idea behind launching the Kosher Cookbook application was to provide a place for the Kosher audience to download their cookbook, organize their shopping list and plan their meals all in one place.
APPSolute Media is a publisher of applications focusing on on-the-go users, helping them find recipes, happy hours and news. Cookshelf allows users to carry their favorite recipes in their pocket, simplifying the shopping and meal planning experience.
Kosher Cookbook can be downloaded for $4.99.
Cookshelf lets chefs, cookbook writers, magazine publishers and food manufacturers deliver recipes directly to the iPhone application.
The iPhone application offers hundreds of brand-name recipes, custom meal plans and personalized shopping lists.
?[The] target demographic is anyone who likes to cook and wants to organize their favorite recipes into one place,? Mr. Libkind said. ?We will work with multiple chefs, cookbook publishing companies and food companies to offer name-brand recipes to their consumers.?
The application offers more than 50 customized meal plans for Shabbat, Jewish holidays and every occasion in between.
Currently the application has banner advertisements in the shopping list area for Skyview Wine & Spirits, Brach?s Supermarket and Pereg Spices and Mr. Libkind said he hopes to tie the shopping list to grocery stores.
?This way users can send the shopping list directly to the consumer,? he said.
Cookbooks on mobile is not a new idea.
Last year, Kraft Foods, the world's No. 2 food company, launched a iPhone and iPod touch application that offers consumers access to food and meal-planning ideas.
Called the iFood Assistant, the application can be downloaded from the Apple App Store for installation on any iPhone or iPod touch. The application targets consumers on the go looking for recipes (see story).
Mr. Libkind said Kosher Cookbook application will soon expand to include location-based services including Kosher markets and places to buy ingredients.
?The hope of Kosher Cookbook is to not only expose the Kosher market to much broader choice of recipes beyond the ?traditional? kosher cooking and also to profile new and undiscovered gourmets and chefs,? Mr. Libkind said. ?In addition we hope to make Kosher cooking easier but allowing users to plan their meals and shopping experience right on the app.?
