ABC, Disney Channel join ESPN on Flo TV

Qualcomm Inc.?s mobile TV service provider Flo TV Inc. has expanded its content distribution agreement with The Walt Disney Co. to add content from the ABC Television Network and the Disney Channel to its lineup.

ABC and the Disney Channel join content already available on ESPN MobileTV. As part of the deal, Flo TV users will have access to shows in primetime from ABC Mobile?including ?Grey?s Anatomy? and ?Desperate Housewives??and a simulcast of the Disney Channel?featuring ?Hannah Montana? and ?Wizards of Waverly Place.?

?We?ve seen tremendous success in the kids and family demographic, and Disney is a world-class, premier provider of that type of programming, so this deal reinforces our opportunity to reach that audience,? said Jonathan Barzilay, Los Angeles-based senior vice president of programming and advertising at Flo TV.

?Our mobile TV lineup now includes Disney and Nickelodeon, the two leading brands for kids, as well as NBC, CBS and Fox, so the addition of ABC gives us all four leading broadcast services as well,? he said.

?This deal reinforces our strength of kids? programming and completes our lineup of TV network broadcasters.?

Flo TV offers full-length simulcast and time-shifted mobile TV programming from a range of entertainment brands.

The ABC Mobile channel features full-length episodes of primetime shows such as ?Grey?s Anatomy,? ?Desperate Housewives,? ?FlashForward,? ?Ugly Betty? and ?Lost? (when it returns in Feb. 2010), as well as select content from ABC Family and SOAPnet.

Additionally, the mobile channel offers a variety of short-form content from ABC Entertainment and ABC News.

Disney Channel will run a simulcast on the Flo TV service, offering consumers access to full-length episodes of Disney Channel series ?Hannah Montana,? ?Wizards of Waverly Place,? ?The Suite Life on Deck? and ?Jonas,? as well as films from the Disney Channel Original Movie franchise.

The service also includes Playhouse Disney, a daily morning programming block for preschoolers and their caregivers featuring series such as ?Handy Manny? and ?Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.?

The Flo TV wireless service already offers ESPN MobileTV, which delivers year-round 24/7 coverage of more than 800 live events, including college football, college basketball, Major League Baseball and other sports.

ESPN MobileTV also delivers news and information seven days a week from ESPNews, as well as information and analysis from ESPN studio programs ?Baseball Tonight,?  ?Pardon the Interruption? and ?Around the Horn.?

Through this new agreement, live event coverage will expand further still, with previously unavailable ESPN games being added to the ABC Mobile channel.

The addition of the Disney Channel and ABC mobile brings the Flo TV service offerings up to 17 channels and 35 brands.

The Flo TV service is being offered across multiple platforms, including on deck via AT&T as AT&T Mobile TV and Verizon Wireless as V Cast Mobile TV.

Audiovox and Flo TV will be launching Flo TV Auto Entertainment, an in-vehicle entertainment system that delivers high-quality TV, offering enhanced entertainment beyond DVDs.

Flo TV is also available as a direct-to-consumer dedicated device, the Flo TV Personal Television, which Qualcomm claims is the first-ever portable digital television with a dedicated network.

Through this variety of media, consumers can get video and audio simultaneously in real time without streaming, buffering or downloads.

Flo TV is running a paid media campaign in support of its Personal TV product. Ads appeared in Best Buy circulars, print and electronic media.

?The Flo TV Personal Television is sold out at numerous Best Buy stores,? Mr. Barzilay said. ?We?re also selling it via Amazon.com and RadioShack.com, and we?re very pleased with the early indications, although it?s too soon for us to have a meaningful picture.?
