Anvil Knitwear puts QR codes on shirts for additional branded content

Anvil Knitwear is letting retailers put 2D mobile bar codes on shirts, labels or hang tags to deliver multimedia content to consumers.

Companies can use the Shirt Scan iPhone application to customize content based on their brand. Content can include articles, photos and videos.

?Shirts Scan was developed to create a content delivery system,? said Caterina Conti, executive vice president of Anvil Knitwear, New York. ?It delivers multimedia content via a QR code which is applied to the shirt.

?We?ve organized the content so that it?s easy to upload in a simple format,? she said. ?It?s adaptable to any brand or campaign.?

Anvil Knitwear manufactures sportswear and accessories.

Brands and consumers can download the application for free in Apple?s App Store.

Users can scan the t-shirt with the Shirt Scan QR Code reader and unlock the content behind that shirt.

Content includes articles and photos

The QR codes can be featured on shirts, labels and hang tags

Additionally, the application lets consumers trace the origins of their products.

Anvil is currently developing its Android application and is looking to expand to the BlackBerry platform.

The Web platform and technology used for the Shirt Scan application was created by AgencyNet.

?QR codes can deliver pretty fast info,? said Adam Lauer, account manager at AgencyNet, Miami. ?It?s something that can be screen printed in a shirt as part of a design.

?It was the right methodology,? he said. ?We?re thinking strategically, what?s going to work across the board.

?You can push new content, get notified and share that content as well.?
