Comcast lets subscribers keep up-to-date on favorite shows via app
Comcast is expanding its Xfinity TV application to the Android platform and letting its digital subscribers stay on top of their favorite shows and movies.
The application is free to Comcast digital subscribers and lets them search and find top movies and premium cable shows via their mobile device. The application is available for free download on Android Market.
?Android is a leading mobile OS, whose users are very passionate and loyal,? said Peter Dobrow, executive director of corporate communications at Comcast, Philadelphia. ?We launched our Xfinity TV app for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch in November, and it has since been downloaded more than 1.3 million times.
?Bringing the Xfinity TV experience to Android users was a natural next step,? he said. ?We?re developing simple, intelligent apps for connected TVs and other devices that will help consumers extend their Xfinity services across multiple platforms, and access new features enabled by new devices.
?We want our customers to be able to access a virtually unlimited number of TV shows, movies, videos, music, apps and games through any Internet-connected device.?
Comcast provides entertainment, information and communications products and services.
Mobile TV
Consumers can browse and discover video content from TV listings or selections from the On Demand library.
Additionally, consumers can use the application as a TV guide and program their DVRs to record TV shows, series and movies so they never miss their favorite shows.
Users can sort content based on different filters such as HD, new, networks or type by category, such as movies, kids or sports.
?We are mainly getting the word out about the application through television advertising and social media efforts,? Mr. Dobrow said.
Mobile efforts
Via the application, consumers can search by keyword or by title A-Z in TV listings or On Demand.
In addition, the company is working on letting consumers watch On Demand TV shows, movies and other video content directly on their Android device.
Soon, consumers will be able to watch Dexter on their smartphone
Comcast is looking to continue to expand the application?s features and functionality.
?We will be bringing many more features to Comcast customers in the coming months ? this is just the beginning,? Mr. Dobrow said. ?In future app updates, we will add thousands more hours of On Demand content to be viewed on mobile devices.
?We?ll launch even more personalization features to our Xfinity TV app including watchlists, favorite programming, and recommendations,? he said. ?And our customers will even be able to stream live television on tablets in the home later this year.?
