Alltel calls on AAA Mobile for assistance

Alltel has partnered with emergency road service AAA North America to let the wireless network's customers access AAA Mobile.

The AAA Mobile application lets members find points of interest and access AAA member roadside assistance from GPS-enabled handsets. The offering is available at Alltel's Acxess Shop on www.alltel.com.

"AAA is known for mapping and we are aware of the fact that people go to all different sources for maps and directions," said Christie Hyde, manager of automotive public relations for AAA, Heathrow, FL. "We have really polished AAA Mobile to benefit our members and we would like them to take advantage of that."

The AAA Mobile application is available for $9.99 per month or $2.99 for a day. It allows subscribers to get visual and audible directions.

AAA Mobile subscribers can locate AAA-approved points of interest such as Diamond-Rated hotels and restaurants. Subscribers can also search through more than 100,000 locations that offer AAA members savings.

In addition, subscribers can review detailed AAA descriptions for points of interests on their mobile phones, access a map showing a destination on the handset's screen and add locations as favorites for quick recall in the future.

AAA Mobile helps people who have vehicular difficulties and need quick attention get roadside assistance. Members press a button on their Alltel phones and their GPS location is sent to AAA. Callers are connected with AAA's roadside assistance.

Alltel has more than 12 million mobile customers.

"Mobile phones are multi-function devices that people carry with them all the time," Ms. Hyde said. "They are perfect vehicles to offer AAA's member roadside assistance with GPS and travel information."
