Celebrity social networking site goes mobile
New social networking site NameDrop.com is leveraging the mobile platform to connect subscribers with celebrities.
NameDrop.com is using mobile alerts, WAP landing pages and applications to connect its members and subscribers. The site has functioning mobile landing pages optimized for the iPhone, Palm Pre and Google?s Android platform, while a BlackBerry mobile site is launching in mid-October.
?People expect to stay connected today and their mobile device is the most frequent tool,? said Ted Foxman, founder/ CEO of NameDrop, Deerfield, IL. ?Our targeted membership wants constant updates and has busy lives, and in some cases, already uses their mobile device to stay connected in some form.
?It?s a must-have to make sure our subscribers have access to all their news at their fingertips,? he said. ?With ever-increasing mobile functionality, we can deliver incredible content, including photo and videos.?
On NameDrop, people are invited to post social networking content and information to their profiles, such as stories and videos. The content, provided by celebrities such as Seal, Michael Johns and Cat Cora, is available to everyone.
Users pay a monthly subscription fee of $2.99 to receive exclusive news, view personal photos and even find out where each celebrity had dinner last night. The content is guaranteed to be from the actual celebrity in question
While the iPhone application is still under review, users can still leverage the mobile application functionality by visiting http://mobile.namedrop.com. Once there, users can click and add the landing page to their iPhone home screen.
Celebrity members are encouraged to post photos and blog entries from their mobile devices via the application without the constraint of character limitations.
The mobile alerts are generated in the form of email messages that inform users when any new content has been posted by a member who a subscriber is following as a favorite.
Mr. Foxman said that people obsessed with celebrity information are in the key demographic.
NameDrop offers opportunities for users to personally interact with the celebrities. Some current promotions include a trip to Australia to be Seal?s guest on tour or have Cat Cora come to your house and cook a dinner party for 12.
Because users pay a monthly subscription fee, there are no plans to monetize the mobile platform via advertising.
Mr. Foxman said that the site has the ability to partner with ad sponsors, but currently there are no plans.
The mobile portion of the network is designed to ensure ease of content delivery from celebrities and members and provide ease of access from anywhere for subscribers.
To promote the new site, NameDrop is launching street teams, contest features with targeted ads, sponsoring David Foster?s 10 city tour across North America and assistance from celebrity members reaching out to their target audiences.
?The mobile platform is a logical extension to ensure our members and subscribers can utilize the site?s functionality at anytime from anywhere,? Mr. Foxman said.
