Match.com introduces iPhone app
Match.com has made its way to the iPhone via an application that keeps users connected to one another wherever they are.
The mobile feature gives users access to more that 15 million singles right from the iPhone or iPod Touch. Users are alerted every time they receive mail and make a connection.
"Match.com introduced matchMobile nearly two years ago, changing the dating dynamic across the dating community," said Mandy Ginsberg, senior vice president and general manager of Match.com, New York. "We realize the mobile trend will only continue to grow."
In fact, the mobile dating market is projected to grow to as much as $1.4 billion by 2013 according to a report by Jupiter Research.
Over the past 14 years, Match.com has transformed the way people meet and connect. The number of members accessing Match.com via their mobile device more than doubled in 2008, supporting the trend that more and more people want their world - and their dating lives - at their fingertips.
The iPhone and iPod touch application reinvents mobile dating by giving on-the-go access to a vibrant dating community with millions of members.
"Now it's easier to find love anytime, no matter where you are," Ms. Ginsberg said.
The Match.com Application for iPhone and iPod touch targets all singles looking to find a great relationship, ages 18 and up.
With the Match.com iPhone app, pictures and can easily be snapped and then uploaded to the account. Also, users can update their profile while on the go.
The Match.com iPhone application does not disclose users' exact location to other users. Instead, it uses the current location of the user and delivers matches with nearby ZIP codes.
To use the application, consumers need to have an active Match.com membership to send messages to other users.
The dating service is giving consumers a fourteen day free trial, to try and promote the mobile functionality.
There's some new stuff that is unique to the application, like fixed memory leaks and added search settings to the search results top bar.
Winking now requires a profile.
Also, search results are refreshed every time search settings are changed and location is accessed every time search results are refreshed or search settings are changed.
"Match.com is the largest relationship site with more than 15 million active members," Ms. Ginsberg said. "From that community, there are a significant number of members that have an iPhone and want to use their iPhone to find singles in their area.
"We also know that a similar amount of members are planning to purchase iPhones in the next six months, so the demand is great for an application that allows you to have Match.com at your fingertips," she said.
