T-Mobile partners with Bebo, Piczo for social networking
T-Mobile UK will add social networking sites Bebo and Piczo to its My Social Sites mobile service.
My Social Sites is a mobile application that gives users an interface for all their social networking sites on their handsets. The mobile application is powered by Intercasting Corp.'s Anthem technology platform.
"The strategy is to make mobile access to popular social networking sites easy and compelling for users, carriers and social networking sites," said Sean Kane, general manager of international at Intercasting, San Diego.
"Intercasting's Anthem platform has features like direct camera, PIM access, the ability to add new sites and features dynamically, as well as a one-stop dashboard for social communication to deliver on this strategy," he said.
"The ultimate validation is return business: Do users find enough value to become addicts? The data so far shows an impressive number of repeat customers and sharing activity."
Users can now send and receive updates for Bebo via text message. Piczo members can take photos with their mobile phone and upload them directly to the site.
Mobile social networking company Intercasting has been providing the technology behind My Social Sites via its Anthem platform. The Anthem platform allows users to add new social networking sites to My Social Sites as they become available for mobile.
Users can download The My Social Sites application for free by texting SOCIAL to short code 49014.
T-Mobile, whose British arm is in Hatfield, England, claims to have an estimated 123 million customers worldwide. It has nearly 17.1 million customers in Britain.
Founded in 2004, Intercasting is a mobile social networking company whose Anthem platform provides mobile media for wireless carriers, social networking companies, major brands and entertainment companies.
Intercasting claims to be the first company to provide a mobile blogging and social networking application in North America.
This partnership follows on the heels of a number of other social networking sites that have already joined T-Mobile's networking application, such as Xanga, LiveJournal, BlackPlanet, Vox and mobile community Rabble.
"Bebo and Piczo are top social networks that users want to use when it suits them - not just when they are near their PC," Mr. Kane said. "The My Social Sites service delivers the capability for Bebo and Piczo users to share photos directly from the phone's camera.
"Another important aspect is communicating with Bebo and Piczo friends anytime via the My Social Sites Dashboard menu - it takes you right away to new friend requests, messages and comments," he said. "Last, cost is a serious concern for the social networking demographic. My Social Sites provides predictable and accessible pricing."
