Verizon boosts entertainment cred with Madonna single release
Verizon Wireless is further strengthening its mobile entertainment credentials with a new deal to deliver an underground remix of Madonna's latest single.
The carrier has partnered with Madonna, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake to offer the mobile underground remix of Madonna's debut single "4 Minutes" from her new album, "Hard Candy."
The track is available exclusively nationwide to Verizon Wireless' V Cast Music customers and overseas to Vodafone subscribers in Germany, Greece, India, Iceland, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Romania, Portugal, Turkey, Britain, New Zealand and the Netherlands.
Vodafone and Verizon Communications are equal owners of Verizon Wireless.
Timbaland, Verizon's mobile producer in residence, produced the mobile-only track. The remix was created last month on the Verizon Wireless mobile recording studio bus in New York after Madonna's induction ceremony into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The track can be downloaded as a full song, ringtone or ringback tone.
Subscribers who download the 4 Minutes remix through Verizon Wireless' V Cast Music service will also get a chance to win a barcoded ticket to Madonna's performance April 30 at New York's Roseland Ballroom. Winners will get the rickets on their mobile phones. The winner will get a complimentary ticket for a friend to attend as well.
Madonna's 11th studio album for Warner Bros. Records, Hard Candy is scheduled for an April 28 release. The 12 songs are a mix of club and hip-hop music, with partners such as Mr. Timberlake, Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes and Nate "Danja" Hills.
Exclusive video footage of the 4 Minutes mobile remix is also available on Verizon Wireless' V Cast Video service.
Separately, the company debuted the Verizon Wireless E-mail and Web for Smartphone for customers, with an unlimited data allowance for email and Internet use.
A similar plan for BlackBerry devices is already live.
The new plan supports up to 10 personal email accounts, including Yahoo Mail, AOL, Windows Live and Verizon.net. It is available for $29.99 a month with a qualifying voice plan.
The plan currently works on the Verizon Wireless SMT5800, Verizon Wireless XV6800 and Moto Q9m mobile phones. Verizon will add other devices soon.
