Anheuser-Busch sponsors mobile sweepstakes for PGA Tour
Anheuser-Busch, g8wave and The Barclays, the first of four PGA Tour Playoff events for the FedExCup, have teamed up for a sweepstakes, giving golf fans a chance to win a variety of prizes.
Fans will be encouraged via print ads, posters and point of sale to text message keywords according to where they see the ad to try and win a chance to play at the Paramus, NJ-based Ridgewood Country Club, host venue for The Barclays. Fans can also win VIP packages to New York Giants and New York Yankees games.
"The ultimate goal here is to make a buzz around this event," said Jeff Ostiguy, vice president of g8wave, Boston.
G8wave plans, creates and executes mobile marketing campaigns, branded community applications and content distribution strategies.
G8wave created mobile microsites around the event, which will give users PGA Tour wallpapers and ringtones. The sites will also have some coverage of the event.
The promotion kicks off in mid-July. Prizes will be given away daily leading up to the tournament Aug. 19-24.
The PGA Tour is a tax-exempt membership organization of professional golfers. Its primary purpose is to provide competitive earnings opportunities for past, current and future members of the PGA Tour, Champions Tour and Nationwide Tour.
The event also aims to protect the integrity of the game and to help grow the reach of the game in the United States and around the world.
Tournaments are being held in nine countries outside the U.S. and in 37 states. The PGA Tour is headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
The Barclays, which will kick off the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedExCup, will be played at the Ridgewood Country Club.
The world's top golfers are expected to play, including Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia and defending champion Steve Stricker.
"Golf fans everywhere understand how thrilling it will be to watch the best players in the world begin the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedExCup here at The Barclays," said Peter Mele, executive director of the PGA Tour. "We are excited that g8wave and Anheuser-Busch are helping us find additional ways to build the excitement."
