WWE Magazine aims to broaden global reach with mobile app

World Wrestling Entertainment Magazine has taken its content mobile to extend its reach to an untapped audience in regions where it has no print presence.

The new iPhone application delivers exclusive magazine content through Apple devices and gives WWE?s most passionate fans and readers access to insider information.

?First, we hope to give convenience and immediacy back to our readers,? said Bob Lee, vice president and publisher of WWE Magazine, Washington. ?Having our app on your mobile device ensures that you will have up-to-date content and exclusive insider benefits, all within the palm of your hands.

?We also hope to gauge the response rates across the globe,? he said. ?Using the mobile app as an entry into never penetrated markets is a huge advantage to mobile technology.?

Mobile magazine
The application is currently available to iPhone, Android and BlackBerry users.

The application was created by Thumb Media Group, the creator of Mozine, a service for content publishers to extend their presence into the mobile realm.

WWE?s application gives users breaking news wherever they are via in-depth interviews with wrestling superstars and feature stories.

The application also comes packed with a gallery of photos that highlights the Superstar of the Month. There is also a capability for user-generated fan art and photos.

Also, a section of the application provides readers with WWE-inspired workouts, quizzes and factoids.

A social element of the application allows readers to follow Superstars? Twitter feeds and blog posts.

The WWE application is subscription-based and gives fans unlimited access for $2.99 per month with daily updated content.

Advertising
Advertising is an important component for WWE Magazine.

Thumb Media manages the insertion and tracking process on ads that the magazine sells.

Presently, WWE is running iAds on all of the pages inside the iPhone application and is using AdMob to flow ads into the Android version.

WWE also has the option to sell sponsorships to a single advertiser.

The company plans to run full-screen interstitials and interactive ads in the future.

?Many of our WWE fans are looking for fresh and engaging content on the go,? Mr. Lee said. ?The WWE Official Mobile Magazine gives our readers access to great content that is not the print magazine simply converted onto a handheld device, but instead an entirely new channel.

?We offer snack-sized articles, trivia, photos, blog entries and soon plan to add audio and video,? he said. ?The mobile magazine is perfect for fans who want to check in everyday for a few minutes and be entertained.

?Also, many WWE fans don?t have access to our magazine overseas. The mobile edition will reach these new markets and offer more fans of the WWE brand the chance to follow their favorite WWE stars.?
