Newsmax goes mobile
Newsmax Media has launched a mobile edition of its Web site, Newsmax.com.
The mobile version of Newsmax.com was created in partnership with Quattro Wireless, a mobile ad network and site developer. With the help of Quattro, mobile device users will have their browser automatically redirected to the mobile version of Newsmax.com.
"We are a news outlet so we have a lot of unique news visitors and a lot have intelligent handhelds," said Gregory Marchwinski, chief technology officer of Newsmax, West Palm Beach, FL.
"We want to distribute content to them based on their phones and we partnered with Quattro because they were capable of doing this," he said.
Newsmax.com is one of the most trafficked magazine news sites nationwide. Last year an average of 4 million unique visitors logged onto Newsmax.com, according to Nielsen Online.
The mobile edition of Newsmax offers a platform where all news items are sourced from Newsmax feeds.
The site is ad-supported.
The top navigation area has a selection box that allows users to choose a category that will take them to the landing page for that topic.
The selection box features the following categories on Newsmax.com: Inside Cover, Newsfront, United States Politics, International, Money News, Health, Science & Technology, Entertainment and Correspondents.
Partnering with Quattro for this mobile initiative allows Newsmax to strengthen its new media offerings and distribution capabilities, the publisher claims.
Quattro provides Newsmax readers with portability, customization and usability.
"More and more people are turning to their handsets to get real-time information," Mr. Marchwinski said. "Mobile is an important and growing area for media companies.
"We have done wireless in the past through SMS text alerts and such," he said. "But the text-based mobile initiatives did not have the density we wanted.
"This is our first mobile edition of the site."
