Perez Hilton goes mobile
Top celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has launched a mobile Web site to feed hungry gossip addicts anytime, wherever they are.
The mobile site at http://m.perezhilton.com offers all of Perez's hottest celebrity gossip and signature photos. Readers have the ability to share posts with others through SMS and email, and search the entire Perez Hilton archives from a mobile phone.
"There was strong interest from Perez Hilton's readers to be able to read on their phones," said Tom Limongello, senior director of business development at Crisp Wireless, New York. "Desktop sites just do not load fast enough to keep up with Perez's posting pace."
Crisp Wireless is hosting the mobile site and provides the ad serving platform to BlogAds.
Crisp Wireless builds, hosts and manages mobile servicess for consumer facing companies that want to extend their brand onto mobile devices and build a mobile business.
The company's mLogic platform intelligently manages content and exports it to mobile devices.
"The mobile site is a full optimization of perez hilton's content, for now we are not running video but that is coming soon," Mr. Limongello said.
PerezHilton.com averages 250 million impressions and 12 million unique readers per month, according to Google Analytics.
Since launching in 2004, PerezHilton.com has become one of the leading go-to sites for celebrity news.
"Perez's readers are on sidekicks, BlackBerrys and iPhones more often than they are in front of their computers," Mr. Limogello said. "It's a very easy logical extension that they would have the interest, understanding and desire to read on their phones.
"Even for those readers who were not sure how to find their mobile browser before, Perez's video launch definitely showed the importance he gives to making his content available on mobile," he said. "That video is the top video of the day with 44,000 views in only 2 hours, bigger than the Paris Hilton interview.
"If Ryan Seacrest taught American Idol viewers how to text, Gossip Girl and Perez Hilton are going to teach readers of entertainment news how to browse on their mobile phones."
In February 2008, eMarketer identified http://www.perezhilton.com as one of the top 5 Web sites for college aged women, beating out MySpace. Britain's Observer newspaper named the site No. 6 of the 50 most powerful blogs.
The mobile site will have banner advertising soon.
"Perez Hilton's readers are young and as of the past year increasingly likely to have flat data plans from AT&T with the iPhone and T-Mobile with its loyal Sidekick users," Mr. Limongello said. "Perez's wider female demographic will catch up and find his content on their BlackBerry devices across all carriers."
