Artificial Life puts music fans on tour with Tokio Hotel

Fans of the band Tokio Hotel can now follow the group on their European tour via mobile phone.

Software and technology developer Artificial Life has rolled out Tokio Hotel, the mobile game that follows the band of the same name to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Moscow and Berlin.

If successful, the Tokio Hotel mobile game may highlight a new way for the music and gaming industries to monetize content.

Tokio Hotel is a German rock group on the Universal Music GmbH label. Since signing with Universal in May 2005, the four boys have sold nearly 3 million records and DVDs in Germany alone.

The mobile game lets fans join the band "on the road" as their virtual chauffeur. The goal is to help the band get to their London concert on time.

During the Paris concert, gamers have to protect the stage-diving band members and rescue fainting fans. In the Moscow concert, gamers can play the drums for Gustav, and at the Berlin concert, gamers have to manage the press and reach out to the fans.

Taking the term fanatic to entirely new heights, at several security checkpoints gamers will have to prove their knowledge about the band. Players are also tasked to manage the band members' outfits.

Passing all challenges enables a gamer to become one of the Band's "most valuable crew members."

Gamers can preview Tokio Hotel on YouTube by searching Tokio Hotel exclusive.

Having a mobile game based on the band is a breakthrough for the music and gaming industries -- both of which are at a critical state.

The gaming industry has seen stagnant growth during the past two years. Likewise, the music industry is in a state of upheaval as record labels and artists try to make sense of the digital revolution.

Artificial Life said the game goes live with selected wireless carriers and mobile resellers in several European countries such as Germany, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Britain and Croatia. It is also available for purchase at Botme.
