Cablevision?s Optimum.net extends to mobile
Cablevision Systems Corp. has created a mobile version of Optimum.net, its popular consumer Web portal for Optimum Online customers.
This new mobile platform offers Cablevision's nearly 2.5 million Optimum Online customers access to their Optimum email, personalized traffic information powered by News 12, local weather and iO TV listings, all in a clean and functional user interface designed specifically for handheld devices.
"Our customers are increasingly relying on their mobile devices to stay connected while away from home or office and we have seen a huge increase in the proliferation of wireless devices, as well as our own deployment of Optimum WiFi," said Amalia O'Sullivan, vice president of consumer product management for Cablevision, Bethpage, NY.
"So we wanted to take our consumer Web portal and present it in a way that maximizes its value and usability on small screens, including access to email and the kind of personalized information that makes the desktop version of Optimum.net such an important and popular resource for our customers," she said.
Optimum.net for mobile is available on all mobile devices with browsing capabilities over all networks, including the iPhone, for which the site leverages the device's unique capabilities to enhance the user experience.
Visitors will be automatically redirected after pointing their mobile browser to www.optimum.net, otherwise the site can be accessed directly at m.optimum.net.
Personalized information is activated after signing in using an Optimum ID and password. Optimum has created the site with Usablenet.
Optimum.net for Mobile features include:
· Access to Optimum Online e-mail anywhere on any Web-enabled device, including the ability to read, reply, forward, and compose e-mails, as well as read attached files
· Traffic incidents in real time for the New York metropolitan area, searchable by location, plus mass transit information including the LIRR, NJ Transit, and Metro North
· iO TV listings

"Millions of our customers use Optimum.net to send and receive email, get local news, traffic, and weather information, as well as entertainment and Web searches," Ms. O'Sullivan said. -- Now, with this mobile offering, we can deliver a great mobile experience to all our customers, on all commercially available devices.
"As an added bonus, when using Optimum.net for mobile over Optimum WiFi network, customers don't have to use expensive data minutes to access their Optimum email and other local information," she said.
