InfoUSA to offer business location data to Limbo

Database giant infoGroup's infoUSA database license division has licensed its U.S. business database to mobile social network Limbo.

The infoUSA database will help populate the geographic information within Limbo's location tools for its social network.

"We have deals with other people, but for many business types, infoUSA have the most complete and up-to-date database," said Rob Lawson, cofounder and president of Limbo, Burlingame, CA.

The arrangement with infoUSA will let Limbo members use the directory information to set them to a specific location.

In other words, the infoUSA data will allow Limbo users to see where they are or search nearby listings to find places to visit.

"We very much believe this year as the year where mobile location becomes real for consumers," Mr. Lawson said.

Limbo technology will also help infoUSA by automatically filtering location listings by activity.

For example, Limbo members can set their activity as "drinking coffee," resulting in the populating of a list of nearby cafes within the infoUSA database so that members can set their location.

"InfoUSA is one of the providers we use to fill our database with accurate information on the points of interest," Mr. Lawson said.

Based in Omaha, NE, and founded by Vin Gupta, infoGroup owns 12 proprietary databases with 4 million customers.

Founded in 2005, Limbo is one of the leading mobile communities, with 2 million members and a claimed monthly reach of more than 5 million consumers.

"Our partnership with Limbo shows the growing necessity of location-based data in mobile and social applications," said Jim DeRouchey, president of infoUSA Database Licensing.
