CNBC app to be preinstalled on Google TV platform

CNBC will be the only real-time financial news and data application preinstalled on the upcoming Google TV platform.

Google TV will bring together the best of TV and the Web into one experience, which will be available on Sony televisions and Blu-ray players, as well as on Logitech companion boxes. These devices go on sale this month and will be available at Best Buy stores nationwide.

?We are partnering with Google on an app for Google TV,? said Scott Drake, vice president of CNBC Digital, Englewood Cliffs, NJ. ?It is part of our ongoing strategy to provide real-time data, news and analysis that investors care about across multiple platforms.?

CNBC on Google TV
CNBC?s real-time Google TV application includes accurate, real-time stock quotes available with data directly from the NYSE and NASDAQ exchanges.

Users can create their own personalized watch lists. Additionally, editorially selected "hot stocks" let users track the stocks that matter to them as well as the market at large.

Via Google TV, consumers will have access to CNBC.com, an online destination for global business news and expert analysis.

Additionally, the application for Google TV will include global programming from CNBC EMEA and CNBC Asia.

Users also get access to news alerts regarding the things that drive their stocks.

Additionally, users can rely on CNBC's editors picks for the most important news videos of the day.

Google TV
Google TV combines all of the favorite entertainment across a person?s TV, DVR recordings and the Web under one search box so a person can easily find what he or she wants to watch.

?One of our goals with Google TV is to finally open up the living room and enable new innovation from content creators, programmers, developers and advertisers,? said Ambarish Kenghe, developer product manager for Google TV at Google, Mountain View, CA.

?By bringing Google Chrome and access to the entire Internet, you can easily navigate to thousands of Web sites to watch your favorite Web videos, play Flash games, view photos, read movie reviews or chat with friends?all on the big screen,? he said.

Google said that CNBC is not the only content provider that it has partnered with.

Turner Broadcasting has been hard at work optimizing some of its most popular Web sites for viewing on Google TV, including TBS, TNT, CNN, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim.

HBO will bring access to hundreds of hours of programming to Google TV with HBO Go.

Authenticated subscribers will soon be able to access all of their favorite HBO content on-demand in an enhanced Web site for Google TV.

Also, the NBA has built NBA Game Time, an application that lets you follow game scores in real-time and catch up on the latest highlights from your favorite team in HD.

?We have seen tremendous success with digital and so we are finding a lot of people want to customize the way they receive our content,? Mr. Drake said. ?Our value proposition is to extend our product to our audience via Google TV for a deeper experience.

?I think it?s a great opportunity for us to leverage this platform for a richer experience for our audience,? he said.
