TripAdvisor taps Nokia?s global presence to reach travelers worldwide

Online travel destination TripAdvisor has teamed up with Nokia to make its service available to travelers all over the world.

The service is now available through Nokia's Ovi Maps and Ovi Store. Consumers can use it to make travel decisions around flights, hotels, restaurants and attractions.

?As the world's largest travel Web site, TripAdvisor is committed to helping the most travelers we can around the world plan the perfect trip,? said Michael Putnam, senior product manager for mobile at TripAdvisor. ?Given Nokia's very strong global presence and long history of innovation this was a natural partnership, putting TripAdvisor in the hands of tens of millions of additional travelers worldwide.?

TripAdvisor provides access worldwide to online travel agencies including Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity and hotels.com

Travel app
The TripAdvisor for Nokia application lets travelers search for popular hotels, restaurants and attractions in their vicinity, as well as find the cheapest airfares available.

The application is available in 12 different languages, giving travelers around the globe a localized TripAdvisor experience.

Nokia users can now find and filter hotels and attractions by rating, distance and price. Travelers can also post reviews while they are on the road and their experiences are still fresh.

As part of the agreement, a dedicated TripAdvisor service will also be integrated into the popular Ovi Maps environment.

The TripAdvisor for Nokia application is available for free to all Nokia Symbian touchscreen smartphone users globally on the Ovi store.

Multiple devices
TripAdvisor also has free applications available for iPhone, Android and Palm Pre users, and the TripAdvisor mobile Web site is compatible with all major mobile phones.

With the Nokia applications, TripAdvisor is trying to reach anyone who is looking for trusted travel advice.

The applications for Ovi and for Maps are designed for smartphones with touchscreens. These customers tend to have higher income and to travel more, so this was a great fit for both companies.

?We want to put TripAdvisor on the most phones we can around the world, so that travelers can access the world's most trusted travel advice on the go,? Mr. Putnam said. ?Mobile provides powerful new ways for people to get travel information and services.

?We're finding that when people are away from their desktop computers, they're using mobile devices to do many of the same things: to look for hotels, plan a trip, or find a cheap flight,? he said. ?Mobile also does a lot of things that a desktop computer can't do, such as using GPS to find things nearby, like restaurants and attractions.

?We're always looking for new ways to delight travelers, so supporting mobile was a natural step for TripAdvisor."
