Yahoo, MLB.com team up for Fantasy Baseball ?10 app

With the regular season having kicked off last night, Yahoo has teamed up with MLB.com to launch the Fantasy Baseball ?10 application for iPhone and iPod touch.

The application is designed to complement the free fantasy baseball game on the wired Web from Yahoo Sports. The application gives fantasy baseball players fast access to their leagues, teams, matchups, player stats and real-time scores and lets them edit their lineup directly from their phone.

?The partnership with Yahoo and MLB.com is an extension of Yahoo?s strategy to be the place that sports leagues go to help reach the broadest audience possible,? said Zealous Wiley, director of corporate communications at Yahoo, Sunnyvale, CA.

?In addition, Yahoo is focused on creating the best experience possible for our users and MLB allows us to offer the most compelling fantasy baseball product available anywhere,? he said. ?Yahoo will leverage promotion across our leading mobile and PC sites.

?The target demographic of the app is males ages 18-45.?

The application is designed to give users the ability to manage their team whether they are at the ballpark, watching the game with some friends or on the go.

Users can step up to the plate and get started today by creating or joining a league on their PC at  http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com.

The application is now available for free from the App Store or at http://itunes.com/apps/yahoofantasybaseball10.

Yahoo also recently enhanced its Sports search portal at http://sports.search.yahoo.com/, helping fantasy baseball fans do more research on their players.

Mr. Wiley said that while there are no plans to roll this out to other smartphone platforms this season, sports fans can check out Yahoo?s sports content, including MLB news and scores, by visiting http://m.yahoo.com/sports from their phone?s browser.

While free, the application for iPhone and iPod touch does not yet include any advertising campaigns.

?The application was designed with ad units in mind, but we have not turned on the advertising as we are evaluating the user experience with and without ads,? Mr. Wiley said. ?We expect to enable advertising in the future.?
