Hearst's LMK expands mobile product offering with 60 iPhone apps

Hearst's LMK introduced more than 60 category-specific iPhone applications that cover a variety of subjects ranging from Lady Gaga and cupcakes to baseball players.

The applications are priced starting at $0.99. The company claims it will expand its mobile product offerings on a monthly basis.

?We saw an interesting market opportunity to break through the clutter of Internet search results and build mobile products that curate, package and deliver the most authoritative content on subjects that matter to consumers,? said Michael Gutkowski, President of LMK, New York.

?This led us to build LMK?a dynamic delivery platform now powering topic-specific iPhone applications, aggregating and presenting the most current and relevant facts, stories, photos related to each topic,? he said.

?This platform is now supporting nearly 70 iPhone apps, and we will leverage it to support thousands of digital products?

LMK is a digital service company incubated by Hearst Corporation. It curates, designs and delivers content on any important person, place or thing.

Each application features news and a photo stream, which the company claims is continuously updated from the best and most authoritative sources.

Additionally the company said that with so many single-topic applications to choose from, it will offer marketers the ability to sponsor an application that is timely and relevant to its brand.

Consumers can also submit their must-have applications at http://www.LMK.com, whether it?s a video game or movie star.

Several of the applications include Lady Gaga, Barbie, Heidi Klum, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Coldplay, Metallica, Boston Red Sox, cupcakes and coffee.

?We have a team of subject-matter and product experts who evaluate consumer demand and behavior to identify the best opportunities,? Mr. Gutkowski.  ?We are pursuing applications relating to subjects people are most passionate about.

?LMK also gives our customers a voice by asking them to submit ideas for must-have apps at LMK.com,? he said. ?Whether it?s a favorite video game, movie star, tennis player or guilty pleasure, LMK will deliver dynamic subject matter that people truly want.?

Mobile expansion
According to LMK, the applications will help consumers break through the clutter, giving them access to authoritative, up-to-the-minute content on the topics that matter most to them.

The applications are currently available for the iPhone, but LMK is looking to expand its products to other mobile platforms in the future.

?Each product features a dynamic river of news and photos,? Mr. Gutkowski said. ?Each news river has been defined to deliver the most authoritative sources of information for that topic.?

?The river also provides original source attribution and links the user to the content provider?s site,? he said. ?The photo rivers are powered by high-quality, licensed photos from Getty and The Associated Press.

?In addition to the core product, we will be upgrading each product with other interesting, dynamic features?including alerts, statistics and data visualizations for each product.?
