Disney, Verizon partner to bring magic of mobile to parks

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has teamed up with Verizon Wireless to launch the Mobile Magic application.

Mobile Magic transforms Verizon devices into tour guides for Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. This is the first Disney-developed mobile application that provides consumers with navigation of both parks.

?Bringing together the leader in wireless with the leader in family vacations offers a unique opportunity to provide a differentiated experience for our customers,? said Arturo Vera, digital marketing manager at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Lake Buena Vista, FL. ?Disney Parks is always seeking to enhance our guest experience.

?Mobile Magic helps our guests make the most out of their Disney Parks vacation by providing information and services that enable them to see and do more than ever before,? he said. ?Mobile will continue to play an important role in the overall Disney Parks marketing strategy as phone capabilities evolve and consumer adoption of advanced services grows.?

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is the segment of The Walt Disney Company that encompasses 11 theme parks and it also includes the Disney Cruise Line and Disney Regional Entertainment.

Verizon Wireless operates the United States? largest wireless voice and 3G data network with a customer base of 89 million.

The magic of mobile
Mobile Magic features updated attraction wait times and Disney?s FastPass return times for the park they are in.

Consumers can also view the locations of their favorite attractions, characters and restaurants with GPS-enabled maps.

The application also features a restaurant listing, tips on what's happening in the parks and trivia games to play against other park guests.

New content will continue to be added to the Mobile Magic application as the attractions change at the park.

The application is $9.99 for a 180-day subscription.

Verizon customers can find the application in the Media Center/Get It Now under the Travel and Navigation category or text the keyword MAGIC to short code 2777 to purchase the application on some feature phones.

The application is available on handsets from certain manufacturers such as LG, Samsung, Nokia and Motorola.

Park guests who are not Verizon Wireless customers can access select information, such as park hours, attraction information, entertainment schedules and dining information on their mobile device through http://m.disneyworld.com and http://m.disneyland.com.

Debra Lewis, a spokeswoman for Verizon Wireless, Basking Ridge, NJ, said that the application is for everybody who wants to go to a Disney park.

?This gives our customers a great, exclusive application that will enhance their experience at the Disney parks and resorts,? Ms. Lewis said. ?Some of the info they can get in the application can't be found anywhere else, so it's a great thing to have in their hip pockets as they navigate and enjoy the Disney experience.?
