Handango BlackBerry catalog reaches 15,000 apps

Handango Inc. announced that its BlackBerry catalog has surpassed the 15,000-mark, making it one of the largest catalogs of BlackBerry applications available on the market globally.

These applications and games are offered to consumers and enterprise customers with a wide range of functionality and price. The Handango BlackBerry application catalog includes games from the world's leading publishers including EA Mobile, Glu Mobile, Capcom Interactive, Digital Chocolate, Konami Digital Entertainment, I-play, Namco Networks America, Viva Vision and Real Networks.

"The primary driver for the adoption of BlackBerry apps is the growth of the BlackBerry device, which is gaining in popularity among consumers," said Alex Bloom, CEO of Handango, Las Colinas, TX. "The BlackBerry is no longer just in the domain of enterprise business devices."

In addition to individual application purchases, Handango allows content providers to use proprietary application programming interfaces (APIs) to create unique subscription services.

Handango's developers can elect to charge customers one time, monthly, quarterly or annually for the content they provide.

With more than five years in commercial use and 250 BlackBerry subscriptions deployed, the average monthly and yearly service retails for $6.99 and $59.99 respectively.

BlackBerry apps can be purchased in varying currencies including U.S. dollars, British pounds sterling and Euros using any major U.S. or European credit cards as well as Paypal or direct-carrier bill where applicable.

In celebration of this milestone Handango is offering 25 percent off any Handango InHand purchase of games and apps through May 15 with promo code ìBB2009.

Handango InHand is Handango's on-device application storefront that has allowed customers to purchase games, applications and subscriptions since 2003.

"All of the discussions about applications stores -- from Apple's App Store to RIM's BlackBerry App World -- are raising consumer awareness regarding the fact that they can get content on their mobile device," Mr. Bloom said. "Basically, they are bringing attention to the marketplace."
