National Geographic Traveler, Fotopedia let consumers explore Burma via mobile app
National Geographic Traveler magazine has partnered with Fotopedia to collaborate on a mobile app that marries travel and photography.
The Dreams of Burma app features more than 1,000 photographs, virtual excursions, trip-building capabilities, social tools for sharing photos, as well as slideshows and wallpapers. The iPhone and iPad app are available for free download in Apple?s App Store.
?National Geographic Traveler and Fotopedia share the same passions ? the beauty of the world, travel and photo,? said Christophe Daligault, senior vice president of global business at Fotopedia.
?We had been in talks for a while and explored a number of possibilities,? he said. ?We decided to start simple and jointly market a new app to our respective audiences.?
National Geographic Traveler is a widely read travel magazine and is published eight times a year.
Fotopedia helps people discover and explore the beauty of the world.
Dream of mobile
The Dreams of Burma app lets users browse photos and instant slideshows.
When they shake or shuffle their device, the app reveals new areas and images.
The app also features complete navigation features with smart tags, search and interactive maps.
?This is a great way to enjoy wonderful images in an immersive, intimate, almost emotional setting,? Mr. Daligault said. ?There are no distractions, you can enjoy this experience at any time, anywhere, on the train, in your living room, even in your bed.
?Seeing these images transports you to Burma and that is precisely what we are trying to offer,? he said. ?What we hear the most from the people who see our apps is ?wow.??
Promotions
Fotopedia and National Geographic Traveler are promoting the app to their respective audiences.
The app is available in 7 languages, including Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.
?We think that Fotopedia and National Geographic are complementary,? Mr. Daligault said. ?For example, while National Geographic Traveler presents you with the "50 Places of a Lifetime, the Fotopedia model is a deep visual study of a given topic, with at least a thousand spectacular photos and easy navigation to help people explore and discover on their own.
?Both of approaches are interesting to our respective audiences,? he said. ?Fotopedia was designed from the ground up as a media company for mobile.
?National Geographic has published many more apps that we have. We are trying various models and comparing notes. We also believe that there is an opportunity to deliver a fantastic environment for brands to connect with a passionate, engaged and emotionally receptive audience.?
