While brands are more visible strutting their stuff on social media, we rarely hear about the agencies often behind these fantastic accounts. A great way to decipher if an agency "gets" social media is to take a look at its own account.
Instagram is one social network where agencies are really killing it, especially now that they are taking advantage of the addition of Instagram Video. With the creative possibilities increased exponentially, there's that much more you can learn by following their accounts. For that reason, we have pulled together a list of 10 must-follow agencies and what they do right.
1. 360I
On Instagram: 360icm
Why they’re a must-follow: They are the agency behind some seriously creative Oreo Instagram account work.
360i has done some epic work for their clients, including Oreo, and has turned that same creativity toward their own account. What is perhaps most admirable about 360i is that they have no fear in making fun of themselves and showing they have a fun side. Sprinkled throughout their feed are weird office antics, props and even what seems to be some drunken office parties. If their Instagram account is any indication, 360i is also a fun place to work..
2. EDELMAN
On Instagram: Edelmanpr
Why they’re a must-follow: They have perfected the balance of company announcements and fun.
With over 67 locations, Edelman is the world’s largest PR firm. That level of worldwide corporate professionalism certainly shows on their account, but they aren’t so stiff that you don’t want to follow them. They have found ways to make company announcements, new hires and other usually boring corporate happenings visually interesting. They also make room for silly photos of employees sky diving and videos of employees hula-hooping.
3. OGILVY & MATHER
On Instagram: ogilvymather
Why they’re a must-follow: Killer infographics and visualized quotes.
Oglivy & Mather’s stream is filled with the kind of visualized content that has made Instagram and Pinterest huge successes. Mostly, they share infographics and visualized quotes—and they do it very well. It’s an excellent account for marketers looking for new, ready-made content to share.
4. CARROT CREATIVE
On Instagram: carrotcreative
Why they’re a must-follow: A company culture that will make you wish you worked there.
A common agency mistake is losing a sense of self in the process of helping their clients. Carrot Creative does not have this problem. By following their Instagram account, you can clearly see that this agency knows who they are and aren’t afraid to show it—even if it’s a video of an intern chugging what appears to be a Smirnoff Ice.
5) WIEDEN+KENNEDY
On Instagram: wiedenkennedy
Why they’re a must-follow: The regular photos of employees’ dogs, hashtagged with #wkdogs.
The pet-friendly offices of Wieden+Kennedy provide plenty of “aww”-worthy moments on Instagram. The #wkdogs hashtag is a perfect way to draw in followers who might never follow an agency. By following, you will also get a healthy preview of the creative work the agency is doing, as well as a few employee candids.
6) RED ANTLER
On Instagram: redantler
Why they’re a must follow: A taste of hipster Brooklyn on the hippest of social networks.
There’s just something about Brooklyn and its residents that was made for Instagram. The filters seem to amplify the beautiful grittiness of the city. Brooklyn-based Red Antler exemplifies all that Instagram has come to be: food and beverage glamour shots, silly selfies and snippets of architecture.
7. BBDO
On Instagram: bbdosf
Why they’re a must follow: An adorably geeky company culture.
BBDO is an agency whose Instagram identity involves a lot of internet memes and geek culture. On their Instagram account, you will find photos of #kittencamp (a collection of cat memes), a poster for a missing unicorn and Nyan Cat. Employees seem to be having fun while still focusing on their work.
8. AGENCY V
On Instagram: agencyvcph
Why they’re a must follow: An insider perspective to the world of high fashion.
If you love swooning over the pages of Vogue or you can’t possibly miss an episode of Project Runway, Agency V is the agency to follow on Instagram. Agency V specializes in retail, particularly high fashion. Their Instagram account is packed with models in delicious outfits and behind-the-scenes shots of runway shows.
9. BSSP
On Instagram: bssp93
Why they’re a must-follow: Their photos show just how people-centric the company is.
BSSP loves its employees and it shows on their Instagram account. In a world where so much is corporatized, it’s refreshing to see the support poured over BSSP employees. Their account is filled with candid shots of employees doing everything from running a race to bowling to sharing some refreshments.
10. AKQA
On Instagram: akqa
Why they’re a must-follow: The focus is all on the work.
AKQA likes to let its work speak for itself. There are a few shots of employees, but its Instagram feed is mostly filled with sneak peaks and highlights of the work the agency has done. It’s a great example of an agency using its Instagram profile as an extension of its portfolio.
